In 2018, I spent ten glorious days with my husband, family, and friends at the Barcelo Grand Resorts in Riviera Maya, Mexico, to renew our wedding vows for our tenth anniversary.

The Barcelo offers six different hotels, all within the same complex, so whether you’re looking for adults-only, high end, or family time, you can find it. Just hop aboard of one their London-style double-decker buses and let them take you from hotel to hotel or to their own private shopping mall.

We chose to stay at the Barcelo Tropical and explore their very cool, outdoor “light up” bar at the mall, which includes large purple and white plastic furniture that is lit from underneath with water all around you. We had mock bachelor and bachelorette parties with our friends and family and played games that challenged us to various “tasks.” Mine was to kiss a bald man on the head! I waited until the very end of the evening, and then went into a clothing shop and asked the lone employee if I could kiss her mannequin! So many laughs.

I absolutely love the Barcelo property: it’s an expansive property that offers everything you could imagine, including a dolphinaris (imagine swimming with dolphins!).

The service is beyond top-notch. From beginning to end of our festivities, we had someone helping us coordinate the details. The staff walked us through everything: including different ceremony locations, chair decorations, and picking our music. We had our own photography sessions and hung out in their world-class spa to relax before the wedding. I even had a room where I got dressed and did my makeup. We got remarried on the beach in the early afternoon with the sun beaming down on us. We had family photos on the beach and a reserved table at the lunch buffet. Later that night, we had a nice family dinner at the property’s steak house.

All around, it was the perfect vacation to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary.
